Volcanoes

What do you think of when you hear volcano?
For a lot of people it will be mount saint Helans, for some others it would be something from a video game or something from a movie. When it comes to naming actual volcanoes people seem to come a bit short and not be able to name many if any.
The reason i want to talk about this sort of thing is that i have recently come across the Toba Catastrophe theory. Basically this would explain where there is a relatively low genetic variation between humans.
At the time of the Toba volcanic eruption, about 69,000 to 77,000 years ago, it would have caused enough of a global climate change to kill off most of humans, down to a hypothesized size of 10,000 individuals. If it is true then this would mean that every human being alive to day or born tomorrow would have had to come from this population.
Even with me telling you about the size of this you shill might not understand really how large this eruption would be, Mount Saint Helans, the worst volcanic eruption in recent history, ejected a total amount of material that is equal to 1 cubic kilometer. That's a lot of stuff. In minecraft that would be a structure that is one thousand blocks tall, wide and long.
Or the cube shown below, but a thousand tall, wide and long.
But the Toba super-volcanoes eruption long ago ejected an estimated 2,800 cubic kilometers of material and this is a minimal estimate, meaning it very well and most likely was much more.
It caused a 6 to 8 year volcanic global winter, that's 6 to 8 years where the sun was blocked out, and an over all cooling of the planet for about a thousand years. It makes most things completely pale in comparison.

Today the Toba super-volcano is located in the Indonesian island of Sumatra and is in the form of a volcanic lake, the largest volcanic lake in the world. It is  reminder just what could happen or rather has happened.

The III

I would say that we are on the verge of a third industrial revolution, all the things are there for it and we are already moving there. Now the question is who will be able to keep up.

Really when it comes down to it all that is needed for an industrial revolution is three things. A source of power, a form of transportation and a mode of communication, and we have new versions of all of them. Having these three new things will make it so that we will in the next few years see a huge change in the world that really will change everything.

for starters lets look at the new form of energies, we have a lot of new ways of generating energy such as wave and soon fusion, however we are still using oil. Yes this is true but even if we wanted to continue using that we would have to change regardless. We are running out of oil and at this point we are kinda scraping the bottom of the barrel. Some people have done some research and have found a way to produce oil synthetically, but it is not cost effective and it is time consuming, basically it comes down to we couldn't make enough of it fast enough to fuel the world like we would have to. So for now, things like wave, solar, geothermal, fission, wind and things like it, green energy, will have to do till we reach the next big one, fusion.
So we have a good bit of energy, that covers that part.

Net we have forms of transportation, here we see the advancement of things like drones and unmanned vehicles. This is evident in many places. For one in the military there is a huge switch to this over manned planes. In the normal world this is happening as well. Look at Amazon pushing for drone delivery. So we have things that are helping save lives and do things like delivery, we also have a push for having smart cars and smart roads, All new things. Over all it is becoming much more effective to move around. There are planes that go much much faster than originally thought possible with the invent and use of hypersonic jets and commercial airliners that are starting to go super sonic. Along with this we also see privately owned companies reaching out into space, for example the international space station no longer gets food from NASA, but rather it gets deliveries from companies such as Space X. So as you can see we are moving away from older modes and really pushing into the new.

And finally the last but not least is communication or information, and the internet is covering that. Because you know, like 40% of all humans can access the internet and share anything they want whenever they want for free with who ever they want. its pretty good. By the way i found this great website.
here
is a link, yall should check it out.
Till later.

They are watching

Warning; the following post is about the creeps, literally about why people feel like something is creepy, so if you are an easy scare and would not like to see things that are designed or specially hand picked by myself to get a reaction of fear out of you the reader, than please leave.
You have been warned.
~

The feeling of fear can come in many ways, and it reflects in our language. Things that are horrible are horrific, it is bad no matter how you look at it. But things that are terrible are not terrific. This brings us to the kind of fear that i want to talk about, terror or the creeps. The feeling you would get if you looked at yourself in the mirror, but instead of you being there, there is a copy of you with one thing changed, but you cant tell what it is. That is Terror.
Stephen King said this amazingly, he said “The 3 types of terror: The Gross-out: the sight of a severed head tumbling down a flight of stairs, it's when the lights go out and something green and slimy splatters against your arm. The Horror: the unnatural, spiders the size of bears, the dead waking up and walking around, it's when the lights go out and something with claws grabs you by the arm. And the last and worse one: Terror, when you come home and notice everything you own had been taken away and replaced by an exact substitute. It's when the lights go out and you feel something behind you, you hear it, you feel its breath against your ear, but when you turn around, there's nothing there...”
When it comes to Terror there is some hypothesis that goes alone with this, it is called the Uncanny Valley. This states that "as the appearance of a robot is made more human, some human observer's emotional response to the robot will become increasingly positive and empathic, until a point is reached beyond which the response quickly becomes that of strong revulsion. However, as the robot's appearance continues to become less distinguishable from that of a human being, the emotional response becomes positive once again and approaches human-to-human empathy levels"
A graph of this looks like this.
This explains why a corpse is weird or scary looking. Because something has changed about it, something that moves it from being Human, but only a little. However this graph only shows a few things. I went on a search for things that also invoke a fear response because of this exact thing.

This video causes the creeps, but it isn't just because it is creepy but because there is something off, but it still holds that Humanoid look to it. Its limbs are to long and the body is misshapen.
This video can also cause the feeling of terror because of its attempt to replicate a humanoid c=shape but changing something alone the way that makes it look as though something is off.
This does the same thing, although this is getting farther away from human like.
The movie Eraserhead is a fantastic example of this.

Lets move away from that and get onto something other than videos. Dolls. Dolls are creepy because yes they imitate humans but they also give off the feeling of being dead, there is no 'life' coming from them. And this is the same reason as to why corpses and zombies are scary.
These pictures can incite fear based on that they try to be human and yet they can not be. Forever staring at anything.
This picture is called The Hands Resist Him, it was created by a Bill Stoneham. According to the artist the boy is supposed to represent himself, and the doorway is supposed to represent the dividing line between the 'real' world and the world of fantasy. The doll next to him is supposed to represent the guide through each.

This is something that i found while searching for creepy things and i want it. Like it is so awesome.

And if you dont believe me that these things can be creepy, here.

This one is the only one that is scary enough to were i feel i shouldn't put it on here, but for you few brave souls feel free.

Ideology

One of the greatest 'abilities' that we humans have is that we are capable of adapting and changing based on our environment.
Because of this I am able to act in a different manner when around different people for the same reason that early humans could move in to Europe and out of the Middle East even though normally it is to cold.
So what I am wondering about is when this, what do you see when you think of a peaceful life.
I think of a stone cottage in the woods, a stone path leading away, there is a cow roped to the side of the house and in the back you can see the edge of a small garden. All of the colors are hyper saturated.
This is just what I think of, but i am guessing that most people refer to the past. So what did people back then think of?
Like if you go back to the thirteenth century, and asked a person what they though about or even knew about the past what would they say?
I am not actually sure, when was the Roman Empire forgotten, or the ancient Greeks or Egyptians.
As I write this I realize the dark ages did a great job of covering up the past.

On a related note, at what point will people think back and see where we are now?
Like in a world that looks more like blade runner rather than what we see today will a person lay down in their bed and imagine a world like ours today.
I don't actually think so.
If people manage to not destroy ourselves I think this time will be the part of history that is summarized.
Yes we are advancing at a rapid rate, but when I think back I don't see 17 and 18 century for their technological advancements. In fact the only reason I think we know about it in any real detail is because that is when the United States was created, an that is where I happen to live so I 'must learn about the history'.
I don't know.
It is a hypothetical which is what is always on my mind.
Yeah.
Have a nice day.

Science?

"Is science of any value?
I think the power to do something of value."
The Meaning of it All, Richard Feynman.

Feynman goes on to say  "To every man is given the key to the gates of heaven. The same key opens the gates of hell.". This was brought to my attention a while back by a fantastic youtube video made by Vsauce, but it made we start wondering. Is science really of any value?

And as Feynman stated, i do think that the ability to do something is of power. We have done some really bad things, just look at the dark ages. This is a time period of one thousand years in which we did nothing, things literally just got worse and there was no progression. There are the crusades, pointless slaughter of thousands.
How many people died for the industrial and scientific revolution?

An estimated 500,000 people were killed in the nazi experiments, one thing that they discovered was how to treat hypothermia. Before this we had a very primitive idea as to how to treat this condition. It is because of them that we are able to save hundreds if not thousands of people a year.

People complain about genetic engineering and yes it can in some bad cases cause symptoms, here I wont be trying to disprove that, but less know about the green revolution. The green revolution is a grand example of this, it has allowed more people to be able to eat food, allowing the population of the world to rise. The production of things like IR8 we have been able to make places that normally wouldn't be able to grow large amounts of food to at least feed their population.

The point of all of this i guess is that science is not a perfect immediate answer, is a slow moving answer that after trying things all different ways progresses into a more perfect tomorrow.
I hate it when i hear people talk about how they wish people would go back to how we originally were, how that would be so much nicer and better for everyone. I wan to point out that for that to happen you would have to kill about 6,500,000,000 people, and every single one (almost) of them will fight for it with everything they have. So yeah that wouldn't be that great, plus you would lose so much.
So yeah.

"There is only one good, knowledge, and one evil, ignorance." Socrates.

yuck, feelings...

 I was thinking.
What is the strongest of human emotion.
No that is the wrong question, which human emotion is the one that pushes us the farthest.

In most places you look, hear, ask or see its tends to be the same answers. Love, Fear and Hate.

First people think that love is because it is a strong emotion no matter how you look at it, and people will do lots of things for love. But if you dissect that feeling you find a lot of love is just other emotions. Fear, jealousy, sometimes Hate, and there is also Lust. So is Love really the strongest? It seems like Love is an emotion with strength, but the reason it is considered so strong is because it 'comes' with so many other emotions. And yes it can push us to do some crazy things, but often it is done for a different reason so for several reasons. So i have to say i don't think that love is the right answer.

The next most common emotion is Fear, and Fear is also a very strong emotion. I would say stronger than love, or maybe more pure. Fear is one of the most pure i think, if you are truly sacred, or Fearful of your life than you are going to dismiss just about all other feelings. Your muscles can give out, you let go of reason, put basically people tend to give up when they are very very afraid.  But i don't think that Fear is the strongest because even if most people break down in Fear, there are those few people who preform better when under fear. We always hear about the extraordinary things that some people have done, even in the worst of times. Fear i think can push people to do even more crazy things than love but again people do one of two things with this emotions. One break down and do nothing, or two do the unthinkable. It is because of these things i think that Fear, even though it is a very strong and pure emotion, is not the strongest or most forceful.

Next on the common list is Hate, and for good reason. Hate, like Fear is an over overwhelmingly powerful emotion, and mind you here i am talking about real hate. The hate that makes you feel as though whatever it is you Hate is disgusting, utter filth. It should be removed, the feeling that whatever you feel this toward you want nothing less than pain for it. You give up your morals for this thing and want it to hate itself just as much as you hate it. Hate is strong and can be very pure, but it can never be the strongest and most pure because you have to have a reason why you hate them, and that must stem from something else, leaving Hate as a secondary feeling. Hate makes people do insane things, they give up reason, but i don't think that this has gotten people that far over all. So Hate cant take this title.

I want to point out that all of these are very strong emotions, and for all i know they are the most powerful, this is just how i look at them and what i think.
Now for what i think should hold this title of the strongest.

Curiosity.

Huff. I don't like people.

So I found this website claiming that over population wasn't a thing and that things would always be happy and good. And when I saw there was a comment ability I kinda went mad and wrote this.
Enjoy.

If you think that there will never be overpopulation than you could not be farther from the truth.
You say that you could fit everyone in Texas, and sure you could. But then for anyone to be able to work they would have to get in a plane and travel somewhere hundred maybe thousands away to be able to work. The analogy is completely useless and there is no reason to even bring it up.
Next if you think overpopulation isn't a thing than you are telling me that infinite people could live on earth. Because that can't happen. Now that's an extreme but in truth the earth could support even a comparatively small number like 100 billion. As of writing this there are 7.148 billion people here.  And right now it hasn't gotten so bad that the population has started to decrease, no I fact it is growing faster now than ever. If you look at a world population over time, we all know it's exponential but really look at it, an you will see that 100 years ago the world population wasn't even two billion. That means that the population growth over all of human history up till that point was amost two billion (1.8). And since than, in one hundred year we have more than tripled it. Some people have it good, namely in the west, so why on earth would they give it up. People are incredibly mean to each other, so what you are talking about is a utopia, and even if we could all be perfect we would still eventually have to large a population to support it be it in five years, fifty years a hundred or a thousand it would eventually happen unless we leave the planet but that's another conversation. Really you have less to worry about than it getting to crowded and more about being killed in war or dehydration, starvation, addiction or something else stupid. So your argument that it isn't true is wrong. Simply look at India or China. There are to many people there. He'll forget about Texas realistically ever one could live in America and it would work. But we would have to get rid of the 'natural' parts of this country which I personally wouldn't care at all, but others would and you would have to go through hell changing their minds or forcing it through. Then come the problems or rounding up everyone and movin them here. And figuring out how you would feed them all. And provide everything from housing and clothing to giving them water and disposing of their waste.
It would actually be a lot better to split the population into say populations of one billion each and movin to one place and setting up there. That would work for a bit, especially if each group worked one one thing more than others and than traded. But alas something like that just wouldn't happen if you looked at the technicalities.
So you're wrong, over population is a thing, but it's not because we are running out of things or space (don't get me wrong, that will happen too at some point, just not yet.) but because things aren't perfect and people don't want to share.
